Fall Outfit Inspirations

This season is and always has been all about the tall brown boots, the comfy looking slouchy sweaters and the scarves. Even if it is the same every year I'm still obsessed and still trying to master my fall wardrobe. Below are some of my autumn outfit inspirations:

Wish List: Winter florals

In the past I have never been all to impressed by florals, but there's something about this seasons dark almost mysterious winter florals that has me envious. It feels like a simple way to bring a subtle piece of summer joy into the colder months without standing out like a sunflower in the snow.

Wish List: Gray Booties

Fall is here and with it the time for new shoes!!

I've been majorly eyeing some new gray booties and some tall dark brown boots for this season and can't wait to find the perfect affordable pair - something like these below (only hopefully at a Marshalls or T.J. Maxx so it will be cheaper)

I have a pair of black booties from a couple of years ago and while they are starting to look pretty worn they are the most handy shoes to own in the fall - they're warm but don't necessarily overpower your outfit - they tend to be more subtle.

State Pride

When I was 18 the only place on the East Coast I had any interest in living was New York, then I spent five years living there and never felt like it was "my state." Now just one year into living in Massachusetts and I feel like I'm at home. I know there are tons of reasons why this is but frankly I don't care too much about the reasons, just the fact that it's true.

Of course the only downside is now when I see all the fun new "I love my state" products - I have no idea which ones I want to get! The state I grew up in or the state I live in - since now I have two places I'm proud and happy to call home (not really such a downside after all).

I love each of these pieces so much - the adorable Vestiges Tea Towels which would actually be cute to have in a variety of states - maybe one of each state you've visited making for a great conversation starter with guests. I also love the shirts just to rep some state pride perhaps at a lazy hungover Sunday brunch.

As for the sweatshirt, unlike the other's this doesn't come in every state and is obviously VERY specific to my case (and apparently a few others) in fact you can't even purchase the sweater any more as they were only available for a limited time but if enough of us sign up saying we want the design available again then they'll reopen it for purchase - so all those CA girls living in an MA world sign up now!

I love Maxi Skirts. Comfy, cute and always relevant, Maxi skirts are the best. That's why today's wish list post is for more maxi skirts - always more maxi skirts! Any color, design or style these skirts can pair up or down for virtually any occasion - I'm even considering wearing one of the above to a wedding I'm going to next month.

Comfy, useful, cute - who doesn't want or already own a pair of yoga capris?! I've been wanting a pair for ages but just never got around to the purchase. Until recently - and I have to say I honestly want to wear them every day. If they were black I honestly would wear them every day - as it is I can't wear gray pants at work [whomp whomp whomp] but nonetheless I wear them whenever I can - and they're perfect for this muggy summer- not too hot and easy to move in without feeling constrained. As I'm sure is the case with most - I happen to HATE muggy weather and constantly feel gross but these make me a little less miserable when away from air conditioning.

Wish List: Pastel Jeans

Along the same lines as black jeans in the fall, pastel jeans have are exploding on the Pinterest-sphere. I think this is such an adorable look and perfect for summer. They go with practically everything and yet still make a statement and add a little edge to your look. 

I particularly drool over any pictures or people wearing the mint colored ones.

Wish List: Sandals

I have often felt as though the toughest part of summer is finding the perfect sandal - something cute and comfortable (I know, if this truly is the toughest part of life things aren’t so bad). This year I'm in the market for some new sandals but finding that I'm more torn than ever - do I want to go with a basic, fun, sunshine-y flip-flop, or something a little more sophisticated but just as comfortable and summer-y?

The truth is you can never have too many sandals so for all my stress I should probably just buy them all - or at least a couple pairs.  

I've featured here a couple different price options that would all be awesome for day to day wear as well as beach and pool side use. The Rainbow sandals are something that I remember from my high school days in Southern California - I mean they were just what you wore as a beach bum in high school and yet this year will be the first year that I've owned any!! I can't believe it's taken me this long to throw some on though- they are the comfiest shoes ever (once you break them in and they form to your foot it's like walking around barefoot) I finally see the appeal that everyone tried to explain to me before. 

As for the other two pairs they're a little more money but look way more versatile - you could actually put them on in Boston for a day on the town and not look like such a Southern Californian transplant.

Wish List: New Summer Shorts!

Growing up I always had a love/hate relationship with shorts. When you don't have the right pair for your body type I feel like shorts can go so epically wrong. Which makes it hard when some of the more popular trends don't work with your body type. For example, super short shorts (think daisy dukes) - not something I should be wearing. As a result of my frustration in finding great shorts and for the simple fact that you generally can't wear shorts to work I've never owned very many and have instead relied on skirts and leggings to get me through the summer.

But this year I want shorts - lots of them. What would a Boston summer be without shorts (particularly of the patterned variety)?

In fact nearly a month ago I premtively purchased a pair of this season's 3" Chino shorts from J. Crew Factory and I am totally obsessed with their fit. Thus why I plan in buying like 5 more pairs which is great because 'the Crew' has some awesome designs this season - I'm pretty certain in fact, that my next pair will be the polka dot shorts featured above.

Wish List: The Chambray Shirt

What isn't more versatile or more hip than the Chambray Shirt.

This has been on my wish list for quite some time but I must say somewhat further down the list simply because I've always been afraid that as cute as everyone makes it look - it would some how look strange on me. However, the more I envy the look the more I know that it's time for me to just suck it up. And at least these options aren't too pricey!

What do you think, in your experience does the chambray shirt look as cute in real life as it looks in all the style pictures you see online?

Wish List: Black Jeans

I've wanted a pair of black jeans for a long time but I've never been able to find the right pair. Enter Guess Jeans. A couple weeks ago as I passed buy the Guess store on Newbury Street I made an impulse decision to go in, I usually assume that they're a little out of my price range but to my surprise I found a pair I loved for under $100!

Now I can finally try out all of the outfits I've been eying on Pinterest that require black jeans!

Of course, I'm probably a little late considering they're usually paired with Fall or Winter outfits but based on the adorable pairing above - I think they'll be able to rock the Spring look too.
